Some 183 patients with neck pain were randomly allocated either manual adjustments (chiropractic), physiotherapy, or general practitioner care over a 52-week period. Chiropractic adjustments resulted in faster recovery times than the other two categories, and at about one-third of the cost.
Patients with chronic lower-back pain treated by chiropractors reported greater satisfaction levels and improvement in their condition, compared to individuals who were treated by family physicians. Some 56% of chiropractic patients reported that their pain was “better or much better”, compared with just 13% in the physician group.
A clinical trial was set up to discover how patients with the debilitating condition of frozen shoulder responded to chiropractic treatment. Of the 50 people tested, 41 reported at least a 75% reduction in pain, with 16 saying it had been resolved completely. The median score of pain severity also dropped from 9/10 to 2/10.
A randomised trial to determine the effectiveness of physical treatments for back pain in primary care. The study found that patients who received manipulation therapy experienced less pain than those who just exercised. People who had manipulation treatment and also exercised responded even more favourably.
This publication sought to provide a comprehensive roundup of the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for various musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal conditions. It found that manipulation or mobilisation was extremely useful for lower back pain, migraines and headaches, neck pain, joint conditions, amongst other ailments.
Patients with recurring or persistent lower back pain (LBP) were given chiropractic maintenance care treatment, with the study aiming to assess its effectiveness on the individuals’ pain trajectories. Those who had received treatment reported 12.8 fewer days with LBP when compared to the control group.
